Rooster

American-style breakfast, unhurried brunch, and an open-air bar on the main avenue

There are mornings on Isla when all you want is a good breakfast and a place where nobody rushes you. For that, Rooster is one of those spots we always end up recommending. It sits on the main avenue, right downtown, and it is so popular that walking by mid-morning is enough to understand why.

Inside it is comfortable and cool, with air conditioning, which on Isla feels close to a miracle after walking in the sun. You sit down, settle in, and the plan is easy: order without hurry, chat, and let the morning stretch out. It has the relaxed feel of a neighborhood cafe, but with the energy of being on the liveliest street downtown and close to Playa Norte.

Breakfast has a very American feel, the kind you miss when you are traveling: eggs any way you like, omelettes, pancakes, waffles, sandwiches, and bakery options. There is also something for when you crave something more local, like chilaquiles, and dishes with a Caribbean touch, like the eggs Benedict. If you have a sweet tooth, the French toast and the Monte Cristo-style waffle are the ones people talk about most.

And it is not only for early birds: it is also a very comfortable spot for a late brunch, the kind that starts as breakfast and ends up almost lunch. Coffee is taken seriously, with lattes, cappuccinos, and an iced coffee many people recommend, plus teas for anyone who prefers something gentler.

Something we really liked is that it has a separate drinks bar, outdoors. If you are not hungry and just want something cool to sip while you watch life go by on the avenue, that is your seat: order your drink, settle in, and that is it.

It is a comfortable plan for couples, families, friends, or solo with a coffee and no rush at all. It is one of those places where you can rest a while between beach, stroll, and shopping without feeling like you owe anyone your table.

Our local tip: come hungry and unhurried. Since it is so popular, at peak breakfast hours you may wait a little, and it is worth it. Think of Rooster for morning or midday, and confirm the hours before you go so you do not miss out.
